In addition to individual print and broadcast stories, this project is producing a special series of reports for radio stations large and small in Haiti (radio is most Haitian’s primary source of news and information) along with an hour-long radio special for National Public Radio stations in the United States. Long after publication or broadcast, Haiti Untold journalism will be available indefinitely on this website and also on the websites of our media outlet partners.

Partnerships of Haitian and US journalists produce our journalism, telling compelling, underreported stories with an eye to inequalities around race, education, health, families, economic security, and gender. Our goal is to reach diverse communities in Haiti and in the United States with this new and important information. Our hope is that Haitians and Americans alike will have increased understanding of issues which are not usually covered by media outlets, especially given the demands of a 24-hour news cycle.

Our unique partnership model is designed to produce the most accurate, engaging journalism possible. Each story has two reporters: one from Haiti and another from the United States. These reporters work together in equal partnership guided by veteran editors at Round Earth and at our media outlet partners in Haiti and the U.S. This partnership approach, unique to Round Earth, produces journalism of excellence -- bi-national teams of journalists, working together, reaching diverse audiences with important, under-reported stories via media outlets in the country where the story happens and also in the United States.

The impact of Round Earth’s model is profound, with many journalists reporting that the subjects they cover and their ideas about journalism are forever changed by their experience with Round Earth Media. Many of our journalists go on to become editors, producers and leaders of newsrooms and news organizations. As a consequence, our work reaches far into the future with young journalists dedicated to covering issues and regions such as those being addressed by Haiti Untold.
The overarching goal of this project is increased understanding in communities throughout Haiti and the United States, understanding of the issues surrounding inequality in Haiti and what might be done to advance opportunity for all Haitians.

HAITI UNCOVERED is a production of Round Earth Media. Our unique reporting method puts two early career journalists on each story: one from the United States, the other from the country where the story happens. With the mentoring support of REM's veteran reporters, they work together in equal partnership to research and report on the same stories – creating the most balanced, comprehensive view possible. Their stories are typically published in at least two countries and languages simultaneously – in both a major media outlet in the United States (New York Times, NPR, USA Today, etc.), and a major media outlet in the country where the story happened. Readers in Omaha see the same story as readers in Mexico City!
